This movie was awesome, but left me feeling uncomfortable, in the fact that when he starts to get caught and tells more lies and tries to cover it up, but they find out that what he said to cover it up is even more lies. It’s a great movie that goes to show you that you have to look into and correctly cite your sources, because it can come back to bite you later on. Also like the lady at the reception desk said, “this could have been prevented if there were only pictures”. If there were pictures in the paper for all of his pieces, he wouldn’t have been able to lie so many times, or at least it would have been harder for him to lie. Also if he would have been fact checked a little harder, because it didn’t seem like it was too hard for another paper to find out that he was full of crap, this wouldn’t have happened so much, or he would have been caught way sooner. Since this guy still walks the streets today, and this movie is based on a true story, I bet that this guy can’t even go to the grocery store without being harassed for the things that he did at the New Republic. It is funny though that since he was banned from journalism, he is doing the same thing he did in journalism, just as a writer. Maybe he should have looked at writing from the beginning, instead of going to journalism. It definitely would have suited him better, and he wouldn’t have had to worry about getting caught. He could have written all the fiction he wanted and not once would people be fact checking him or freak out when he forgot the slightest detail. I don’t like the way that Steven was manipulative either. I had a friend that way in school and know how it is, but I do like the way that Chuck dealt with it in the end. When Steven told him that he didn’t want to be alone, that he didn’t know what he would do if he was by himself, and Chuck responded with “well I’m not going with you Steven”.
